Accident - June 18,1971
S/N 1141
The N703A accident was one of 18 accidents or incidents during the years that AAB operated. When you say that one accident is to many... 18 is certainly a number that raised serious issues over time. Each was different. When reviewing each, some were maintenance and some being pilot error.
N703A's landing, without power, in less than favorable sea conditions resulted in loss of life, injuries as well as loss of the aircraft to a depth that would never allow recovery. Investigations and litigation relied on testimony only and no aircraft inspection was available. The FAA and NTSB findings were very limited. The judge in the subsequent lawsuit filed by Capt. George Hubschman, ruled in favor of the plaintive based on his definitive testimony.
